Myriam Sfeir is the Director of the Arab Institute for Women (AiW) at the Lebanese American University (LAU). With over 25 years of experience in the field of women’s rights and gender equality, she has been a leading figure in research, expert analysis, training, and teaching. Previously, she served as the senior managing editor of Al-Raida, a double-blind peer-reviewed journal published by the AiW, which tackles critical issues like gender rights, sexuality, and marginalized groups.
Sfeir has played a key role in organizing numerous international and regional conferences, film festivals, and panels on gender justice and human rights. She is considered an authority on the women’s movement in Lebanon and the Arab world and has worked on pioneering projects related to oral history and movement building. Sfeir holds a BA in Philosophy from the American University of Beirut and an MA in Interdisciplinary Women’s Studies from the University of Warwick, UK. Her expertise extends to issues of gender-based violence, sexuality, and the role of women in advancing social justice.
