Dr. Josephine Zgheib is a dedicated leader in social, environmental, and community development. She has been a member of the Kfardebian city council board since 2010, where she spearheaded environmental and ecotourism initiatives and expanded a women’s development prototype bureau from her hometown to 12 locations across Lebanon.
A parliamentary candidate in both the 2013/2014 and 2018 elections, Dr. Zgheib was affiliated with the “Take Back Parliament” campaign and Kulluna Watani, advocating for reform and accountability in Lebanese governance.
As a social entrepreneur, she founded Beity Association and Auberge Beity in 2004 after a two-year journey to 45 countries, during which she promoted messages of peace and acceptance. Beity serves as a youth hostel and a hub for rural tourism and social development.
Dr. Zgheib is the General Secretary of the Lebanese Youth Hostel Federation and Vice President of the Arab Affiliated Network for Social Accountability (ANSA), a World Bank-funded initiative connecting activists from seven MENA countries. She is also a board member of the Lebanon Eco Movement, a coalition of over 60 NGOs focused on environmental protection, and a board member of MEPI-LAA (Middle East Partnership Initiative Lebanese Alumni Association).
In addition to her activism, Dr. Zgheib is a certified trainer in communication, leadership, social accountability, anti-corruption, and citizenship.
Dr. Zgheib holds a BA in Physical Therapy from Notre Dame of Lebanon Paramedical University, a Master’s in Leadership and Management from the Chamber of Commerce, Industry, and Agriculture of Beirut, and earned her PhD in Local Governance Development from the University of Birmingham, UK.
